With anyone and everyone wanting to become a rock/superstar nowadays, a lot of people take chances in performing in night clubs left and right, hoping to catch the attention of some big time record label manager or talent scout. Only a few do succeed, however, with the competition being in reality talent shows and the like. For those who aren’t in the search radar, they’ll settle for the nightly bar scene.
Erin Gipson, on the other hand, took another path to fame as she recently appeared in the third season of Beauty and the Geek. The former Beauty got a little more attention due to her previous publicity, and has now made a major performance, thus a review.
A model whose true passion is music, Erin was a good choice for a Beauty on Beauty and the Geek. She is a voice teacher who recently had a three-week run of her show, “Fever,” at a piano bar in Chicago. Time Out Chicago was courteous enough to review her show, as well as note some areas of improvement. In conclusion, she seems ready to take on different heights as she gets more used to the stage.
Jazz and pop standards were parts of her act, which reviewer Marc Geelhoed thought seemed less natural and relaxed.
“Gipson’s at her strongest when taking on pop material, like Nancy Sinatra’s ‘Bang, Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down),’ and Nina Simone’s ‘If You Knew,’” Geelhoed commented.
He continued to say that the former Beauty needed to practice more on her rhythm and audience rapport.
“She also had a disconcerting habit of resting her hand on her stomach when going after a high note, as if she was practicing a technique instead of performing in front of a crowd,” Geelhoed continued to criticize.
Moreover, he noted that the audience was pretty receptive to the song selection, which was very appropriate. After a few more performances, Erin Gipson might be able to really nail it.
